Get lush plants with an automatic irrigation system!

Spring is an exciting time to see lush plants. The grass is also at its healthiest, getting thawed from winter. This growing season, ensure your plants are also at their healthiest by watering sufficiently. Follow our three tips to make sure you get properly watered plants, whatever season we may be in.

Three tips to make sure your plants get watered properly:

1. Make sure that you do not “underwater” your plants.

Plants need the right amount of sun and water so they can make their food. Grass needs enough moisture as well so it can grow. Deprive them of enough water and you will lose your green lawn. “Underwatered” plants will lose their bright green foliage, ending up in a brown, drying garden.

How to gauge if your plants are underwatered: Healthy grass should be able to bounce back even if you have walked on it. If they don’t, then you know that they need watering right away, Grass with brittle blades are also most likely dehydrated, and will grow slowly.

2. But make sure you do not overwater them either

Just like underwatering your plants, overwatering them will also harm them. While grass needs a moist environment to thrive, an abundance of moisture could make it susceptible to various diseases. Plant diseases caused by overwatering include root rot, brown patch lawn disease, and mildew.

How to gauge if your plants are overwatered: Lawns feel soggy when they are overwatered. This is because the grass or plants have not absorbed all the water present in the soil. When you are mowing, you will also feel that you are cutting through a deep thatch, making you mow your lawn longer than usual.

3. Water deeply

Make sure that when you water your plants, the roots get drenched in water so the plants can absorb it. Watering only on the surface level will restrain plants from absorbing water and nutrients, preventing them from making their food. It’s also recommended that plants get at least an inch of water weekly to avoid plant malnutrition.

To help you adhere to your watering schedule and make sure that your plants get hydrated, it’s best to install an irrigation system. This way, you can ensure that an ample supply of water reaches each part of your lawn. Note that irrigation systems vary. It’s not a “one size fits all” solution but instead, is customized according to your lawn or garden. The best thing to do is to get help from professionals to install your automatic irrigation system properly.
